2010 Schools of Distinction
Ninety-three Washington schools earned status as Schools of Distinction for dramatic increases in reading and math
in 2010. To earn School of Distinction status, schools must be performing at least at the state average
performance in fourth, seventh, and tenth grade reading and math assessments, as measured on the Spring
2010 Measures of Student Progress and High School Proficiency Exam. Schools meeting this requirement were then
evaluated on combined reading and math improvement over the last five years. The top five percent of the
elementary schools, middle/junior high schools, and high schools are designated as a School of Distinction.
