Celebrating Educational Excellence: Vale Elementary Named National ESEA Distinguished School
Cashmere School District's Vale Elementary has earned recognition as a National ESEA Distinguished School for 2024–25, one of only two schools in Washington to receive this distinction.
The school serves a student population that reflects real complexity. More than half of Vale's students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Fifteen and a half percent are English language learners. Thirteen and a half percent have identified disabilities. This is the kind of school where sustained improvement is hard, which is exactly why it matters.
Yet Vale has demonstrated exceptional student performance and academic growth year after year. The school didn't get there by adding more tests or tightening accountability. Instead, the leadership and staff built the conditions where students actually advance—by knowing each child, by challenging them appropriately, and by creating a culture where growth is expected.
Principal Sean McKenna said it simply: "This recognition belongs to our entire school community. It highlights our shared belief that every child matters and deserves to be seen, supported, and challenged to succeed."
That's not just philosophy at Vale. It shapes how the school operates. The educators and leaders have made deliberate choices about how time is spent, how resources are allocated, and how decisions get made. Those choices add up.
Congratulations to Vale Elementary, Principal McKenna, and the entire school community on this well-deserved recognition!
